Jadavpur University death probe widens: Four more students Arrested, total reaches Seven

Four more students have been apprehended by the police in connection with the tragic demise of Swapnadeep Kundu, a first-year student in Jadavpur University's Bangla department, who allegedly fell from the roof. The individuals have been identified as Mohd Asif, Mohd Arif Ankan Sarkar, and Asit Sardar. Their arrest has raised the total number of apprehensions to seven, with Asit being an alumnus while the others are current students. Furthermore, two more students are currently under detention. Their arrests come after Swapnadeep's father had filed for a murder complaint.

Shankha Shubhra Chakraborty, Joint Commissioner of the Kolkata Police, will be conducting inquiries with the Dean of Students and the Registrar. Reports reveal that despite completing their courses, more than 20 students are residing illegally within the university's hostels.

In earlier developments of the case, Saurabh Chaudhary, Deep Shekhar Dutt, and Manotosh Ghosh were taken into custody by the police. The mobile phones of these three individuals have already been submitted for forensic examination. Police have suspicions that certain photo-videos and call records might have been intentionally erased.

Swapnadeep's family alleged that he was subjected to ragging by hostel boarders, pointing to injury marks found on his body. His father, Ramprasad Kundu, filed a police complaint holding some of the hostel inmates responsible for his son's death. A classmate's Facebook post has also highlighted the involvement of "some seniors" in the ragging incident, further intensifying the investigation.
